I DONATED BLOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY! :D
Am very excited and happy that i plucked my courage to do it so parden me for the long post! =)
It wasnt that bad really =)
in fact, i can really feel a sense of satisfaction after donating blood.
hahas.
actually initially i was very very hesitant!
cause im really afraid of pain =X
but i went ahead eventually =)
Hahhas.
actually its my sis that wants to donate blood..
she's so willing..so voluntary..
so in the morning my dad asked me,
so! so u want to donate blood?
I said no. haha..
but my dad just said..
go and see ur mei mei donate blood..and then consider if u want to donate..
bring ur IC along too. hahaa.
haha im lucky i brought my ic..or else i wont be able to donate blood =)
so anyway we went to the Health Sciences Authority(HSA) after breakfast..
looking straight u can already spot a big word which says,
BLOOD BANK.
haha! these words really made my legs go wobbly.
so anyway i went in, filled in forms..
so many questions =X
yup.
and have to sign..
so a little waiting..
my name was called before stacy's name..
the doctor checked my weight and blood pressure.
all was great =)
the doctor was very friendly! =) haha. kept talking to me..
so i was damn funny too..kept asking whether will it be pain..
so yup.
so after a preceeded to the far left outside of the donation room.
before entering, we gotta do a blood test first =)
haha so i went to sit there.
awhile later stacy joined me.
my name was called first. the nurse asked me give her my finger.
haha. and she tooked something which looked like a stapler!
haha!
and 'TAK'!
there's like a hole in my finger.
ahha. and blood was like flowing out lar..
she kept pressing my finger to take the blood out.
so she dripped the blood into a beaker containing blue fluid..
my blood immediately sank to the bottom of the beaker.
this means..my blood's suitable! hahas!
actually my heart was thnking, oh man!
cuz i was very afraid at that time.. =)
so this blood testing thing was pain la!
she then placed a small round plaster round my finger.
oh and then a nurse came to her..passed her a ocument saying that someone was not suitable for the donation..
hmm so anyway i went in the donation room!
the nurse led me to the arm chair.
my dad told the nurse to leave the seat beside me empty for stacy =)
haha..
so i sat there and not too long ago stacy came =)
the nurse came to see if our veins are visible and large enough for the needle to poke in.
so she rubbed our arms. hahas. i had to press something..like to pump my blood..
so the nurse said that my veins are very suitable Zzz..
hahas..
but stacy didnt pass the test.
she nurse told her that her veins were too small.
haha. so she went out..
and im left in the room! with others, of course..
haha..
wierd right..she was the one who was so willing to donate and now im the one donating not her..
so when the nurse was ready to inject the needle in, another nurse went to call my dad in..
haha my dad wants too accompany me =)
hey, its my first time, okay!
so the nurse rubbed some medicine on =)
and then here goes the needle!
i didnt look at the needle AT ALL.
so until now i have no idea how the needle looks like.
haha.
i looked the other way the whole time.
initially i could feel the needle piercing into my skin.
but its only for like 5 secs.
and then she waited for another while i pierced another needle in..
haha..for 5 secs it was pain and then the pain was gone. yup!
and i immediately saw blood flowing in the tubes!
my blood flowed really fast. hahas.
so yay i sat there, dad and stacy was outside watching me.
oh and! the whole precess lasted for 3mins only!
LOL! rare case. the nurse said that my blood is very suitable..haha..
i was shocked la when she approached me.
i said, 'huh? over already? so fast?'
haha. obvious i was enjoying the whole process =)
so she bandaged me with the pink bandage. ahhas!
i was even allowed to choose the colour i want!
between pink and orange.
yup..i think the adults only have yellow.
hahas! =)
so went to the refreshment area after that.
had free milo, chocolate and muffin.
hahas.
anyway they gave me lots of stuffs.
a 2008 blood donors' handbook,appointment thiny, a sponge thingy i pressed throughout the entire process, alot of notes abt how to take care of the wound after donating, and gave me iron tablets. yup. to replenish the iron in my body =)
i have to swallow that for 2 weeks, one everyday. hahas. yup.
so that's all!
blood donating really isnt pain =)
ohya before that when i was in the car on the way there smsed qin ai de =)
she's always the first to know =)
Here are some criteria and informations about blood donation! :D
-Blood donors must be between 16-60 years old, weigh at least 45kg and be generally healthy.
haha. i weighed 46kg =) one kg less and i wont be able to donate =)
-You cannot donate if u were having a fever,cough,flu or other infections in the past 3 weeks.
-You can donate blood once every three months. (Im donating blood agn next year march' 08=) )
-350 units of blood are needed everyday to save lives.
-Giving blood is giving hope and giving life.
-Every unit of blood can be processed into three blood components to treat different medical conditions.
-You gain satisfaction from donating blood.
-Our body replenished the volume of donated blood within 72 hours with suficient intake of fluids.
